Though it's not the main point of this verse, there's something here that we can especially take comfort in:
"And
therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because
he had done these things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them,
My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." John 5:16-17
In Young's
Literal Translation: "and because of this were the Jews persecuting
Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a
sabbath. And Jesus answered them, ‘My Father till now doth work, and I
work.’"
It's so easy to think about what we have to do to
exercise faith, and to think about what other people are doing, what we
maybe should be doing towards them, and what's going on in the world
around us, and we can easily forget that the Lord is at work, and in
every situation, He's working for our good (Romans 8:28). We can simply
remind ourselves that we're to keep remembering that He is, and that
He's a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him ( Hebrews 11:6), and to
cast our cares on Him for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).
In short, He's WORKING, and not just when we think that He's answered our prayers. In our natural man, we tend to think of Him as far removed from us, on His throne, and only possibly doing something in our lives once we go to Him in prayer. Meanwhile, we do all the work, we think. But He's working all the time, and we shouldn't forget that. And we are incomparably blessed in that He revealed Himself to us, and we can know that He is, that He rewards those who diligently seek Him, and He is working in our lives so that all circumstances work for our good.
